Question

Kamal travels from City A to City B. If Kamal drives his car at 1/4 of his normal speed, then he reaches City B 54 minutes late. Find the time (in minutes) that Kamal would have taken to travel from City A to City B if he drove at his normal speed.

A.

13

B.

23

C.

10

D.

18

Correct option is D

Given:

At 14\frac{1}{4} of his normal speed, Kamal is 54 minutes late.

Concept Used:

Time is inversely proportional to speed for a fixed distance.

Solution:

Let the normal time be t minutes

At 14\frac{1}{4} speed, the time taken is 4t

The difference in time is:

4t - t = 54

3t = 54

t = 543\frac{54}{3} = 18 minutes

Thus, the time Kamal would have taken to travel at his normal speed is 18 minutes.
