Question

The cost of 3 cups and 5 plates is Rs. 1,080 and the cost of 2 cups and 4 plates is Rs. 840. Find the ratio of the cost of a cup to the cost of a plate

A.

1:3

B.

2:3

C.

1:1

D.

1:2

Correct option is A

3 cups + 5 plates = Rs. 1080.. (i)
2 cups + 4 plates = Rs. 840 – (ii)
(i) × 2 – (ii) × 3
(10 – 12) plates = 1080 ×2 – 840 × 3
-2 plates = Rs. 2160 – Rs. 2520
2 plates = Rs. 360
1 plate = Rs. 180
From eq. (i), 3 cups + 5 (180) = Rs. 1080
3 cups = 1080 – 900 = Rs. 180
1 cup = Rs. 60
Required ratio = 60: 180 = 1: 3
