Question

Some horses and same number of persons were going somewhere. Half of the persons were sitting on their horses whereas remaining persons were walking and leading their horses. If the number of legs walking is 70, then how many horses were there?

A.

14

B.

10

C.

18

D.

16

Correct option is A

Given:
Number of horses = Number of persons = x
Half of the persons are sitting on horses.
The remaining half are walking and leading their horses.
Total number of walking legs = 70

Concept Used:
Each person have 2 legs, and each horse have 4 legs.

Formula Used:

Total walking legs = (No of persons × 2) + (No of horses × 4)

Solution:

70=x2×2+x×470 = \frac{x}{2}\times 2 + x \times 4

70 = x + 4x

5x = 70

x = 705\frac{70}{5}

x = 14

So, 14 horses and 14 person are there.

Thus, the correct answer is (a).
