Question

If 70 is subtracted from two-third of a number, then the result is equal to the sum of 30 and one-fourth of that number. Find the number.

A.

240

B.

340

C.

200

D.

230

Correct option is A

Given:

Let the number be x.

Two-third of the number:23 \frac{2}{3}x

Subtracting 70: 23x70\frac{2}{3}x - 70

Sum of 30 and one-fourth of the number: 30 + 14x\frac{1}{4}x

Solution:

23x70=30+14x\frac{2}{3}x - 70 = 30 + \frac{1}{4}x

23x14x=30+70\frac{2}{3}x - \frac{1}{4}x = 30 + 70

812x312x=100\frac{8}{12}x - \frac{3}{12}x = 100

512x=100\frac{5}{12}x = 100

x = 100×1250 \times \frac{12}{5}

x=240

Option (A) is right.
