Question

The average weight of a class of 82 students is 62.5 kg. If the average weight of half of the students is 83.6 kg, then find the average weight (in kg) of the remaining students of the class.

A.

52.9

B.

48.6

C.

41.4

D.

46.2

Correct option is C

Given:
Number of students in the class = 82
Average weight of the class = 62.5 kg
Average weight of half of the students (41 students) = 83.6 kg
Formula Used:
Total weight of students = Number of students × Average weight
Remaining students' average weight = (Total weight of students - Weight of first half) ÷ Number of remaining students
Solution:
Total weight of the class = 82 × 62.5 = 5125 kg
Weight of first half of students = 41 × 83.6 = 3427.6 kg
Weight of remaining students = Total weight - Weight of first half
=> Weight of remaining students = 5125 - 3427.6 = 1697.4 kg
=> Average weight = 1697.441\frac{1697.4} {41}= 41.4 kg
