Question

The average runs scored by a batsman in 23 matches is 42. In the next 10 matches, the batsman scored an average of 15 runs. Find his average runs scored (rounded off to two decimal places) in all the 33 matches.

A.

32.82

B.

34.82

C.

33.82

D.

35.82

Correct option is C

Given:

Average of first 23 matches = 42

Average of next 10 matches = 15

Total matches = 33

Find overall average (rounded to two decimals)

Formula Used:

Average = Total runs / Total matches

Total runs = Sum of runs in first 23 matches + Sum of runs in next 10 matches

Solution:

Total runs in first 23 matches = 23 × 42 = 966

Total runs in next 10 matches = 10 × 15 = 150

Total runs = 966 + 150 = 1116

Overall average = \frac{1116}{33} = 33.82(approx)
