Question

The average of four consecutive even integers is 27, what is the largest of these numbers?

A.

27

B.

96

C.

30

D.

24

Correct option is C

Given:

The average of four consecutive even integers = 27

Formula Used:

Average=Sum of termsNumber of terms\text{Average} = \frac{\text{Sum of terms}}{\text{Number of terms}}

Solution:

Let the four consecutive even integers be:

x, x+2 ,x+4 ,x+6

The average of these numbers is given by:

x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)4=27\frac{x + (x+2) + (x+4) + (x+6)}{4} = 27

4x+124=27\frac{4x + 12}{4} = 27

4x+12=108

4x=96

x=24

Largest number = x+6=24+6=30

Option (c) is right.
