    Question

    Seven times a number reduced by 14 is equal to the sum of 5 times the number and 6. Find the number.

    A.

    10

    B.

    20

    C.

    5

    D.

    15

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Seven times a number reduced by 14 is equal to the sum of 5 times the number and 6.

    The number is x.

    Solution:

    7x14=5x+67x - 14 = 5x + 6

    7x145x=67x - 14 - 5x = 6

    2x14=62x - 14 = 6

    2x=6+142x = 6 + 14

    2x=202x = 20

    x=202x = \frac{20}{2} =10=10

    The number is 10
