Question

P can do a piece of work in 10 days. After working for 4 days, P leaves and Q finishes the remaining work in 9 days. If they had worked together from the beginning, then how many days would they take to complete the work?

A.

6 days

B.

9 days

C.

8 days

D.

7 days

Correct option is A

Suppose, Total work = 10 units
=> Efficiency of P = 1 unit/day
Work done by P in 4 days = 1 x 4 = 4 units
=> Remaining work = 10-4= 6 units
Let efficiency of Q be x
=9x=6
=>x= 2/3
Total efficiency of P and Q = 1 + 2/3 = 5/3 units/day
Required Time =10/5/3 =6 days
