Question

If the area of a triangle with base 12 cm is equal to the area of a square with side 12 cm, then the altitude of the triangle will be:

A.

12 cm

B.

18 cm

C.

36 cm

D.

24 cm

Correct option is D

Given:

Base of triangle = 12 cm

Area of square = Area of triangle

Side of square = 12 cm

Formula Used:

Area of square = side²

Area of triangle = 12×base×height\frac{1}{2} \times \text{base} \times \text{height}

Solution:
Area of square =122=144 cm2= 12^2 = 144 \, \text{cm}^2

Let height of triangle = h

Area of triangle =12×12×h=6h \frac{1}{2} \times 12 \times h = 6h

Equating:

6h = 144

h = 1446=24 cm\frac{144}{6} = 24 \, \text{cm}
