Calculate the area of the isosceles triangle with length of equal sides 5 cm and the third side 8 cm.
Question

Calculate the area of the isosceles triangle with length of equal sides 5 cm and the third side 8 cm.

A.

12 cm²

B.

10 cm²

C.

6 cm²

D.

24 cm²

Correct option is A

Given:

Isosceles triangle with equal sides = 5 cm, third side = 8 cm

Need to find area.

Formula Used:

Semi-perimeter:

s = a+b+c2\frac{a + b + c}{2}

Area of triangle:

s(sa)(sb)(sc) \sqrt{s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)}

Solution:

s = 5+5+82\frac{5 + 5 + 8}{2} = 9

Area of triangle;

9(95)(95)(98) \sqrt{9(9-5)(9-5)(9-8)}

9×4×4×1 \sqrt{9 \times 4 \times 4 \times 1}

144\sqrt{144} = 12 cm²
