Question

Five solid cubes, each of volume 216 cm³, are joined end to end in a linear manner only (single row arrangement) to form a cuboid. What is the lateral surface area (in cm²) of the cuboid?

A.

468

B.

432

C.

360

D.

504

Correct option is B

Given:

Five solid cubes are joined to form a cuboid

Volume of each cube =216cm3 216cm^3

Formula Used:

Volume of cube =a3 a^3

Where a is side of cube

Lateral surface area of cuboid = 2h(l+b)

Where l,b and h are length , breadth and height of the cuboid

Solution:

If the volume of cube is 216cm3216cm^3

Then side of cube a=2163 \sqrt[3]{216} = 6cm

If 5 cubes are joined in linear way then:

Length of cuboid will be 6×5 6 \times 5 = 30cm

Breadth = 6 cm

Height = 6 cm

Then lateral surface area  = 2(6)(30+6)=432cm22(6)(30+6) = 432cm^2
