Question

Find the greatest number, which when divides 76, 151 and 226 leaves same remainder.

A.

75

B.

78

C.

70

D.

76

Correct option is A

Given:
The greatest number, which when divides 76, 151 and 226 leaves same remainder.
Concept Used:
In this type of question, the HCF of difference of number is taken.
Formula Used:
If there are 3 numbers ‘a’, ‘b’, and ‘c’ and a > b > c,
{HCF [(a - b), (b - c)]} will be the greatest number such that when a, b, c are divided by it will give remainder alike.
Solution:
Using the above formula, we get
=> Greatest number = HCF [(226 – 151), (151 – 76)]
=> HCF [(75), (75)] = 75
∴ 75 will be the greatest number such that when 76, 151, and 226 are divided by it, the remainders are all alike.
