Evaluate the following.cos⁡−1(12)+sec⁡−1(−2)\cos^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\right) + \sec^{-1}\left(-\sqrt{2}\right)cos−1(21)+sec−1(−2)
Question

Evaluate the following.

cos1(12)+sec1(2)\cos^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\right) + \sec^{-1}\left(-\sqrt{2}\right)

A.

π

B.

-π3\tfrac{π}{3}

C.

0

D.

π3\tfrac{π}{3}

Correct option is A

Given:

cos1(12)+sec1(2)\cos^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\right) + \sec^{-1}\left(-\sqrt{2}\right)

Solution:

Evaluate the inverse cosine function:

cos1(12)\cos^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\right) = π4\frac {\pi}{4}

Evaluate the inverse secant function:

sec1(2)\sec^{-1}\left(-\sqrt{2}\right) = 3π4\frac{ 3\pi}{4}

So,

cos1(12)+sec1(2)\cos^{-1}\left(\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\right) + \sec^{-1}\left(-\sqrt{2}\right) = π4\frac {\pi}{4} + 3π4\frac{ 3\pi}{4} =π\pi

Option (a) is right.
