Question
Aditya is standing on a light house of 150 m height and watching two boats on either side with angles of depression of 30o and 60o, respectively. Find the distance between the two boats.
A.
300 m
B.
150√3 m
C.
250 m
D.
200√3 m
Correct option is D
Given:
Height of lighthouse = 150 m
Angles of depression to two boats = 30∘ and 60∘
Boats are on opposite sides
Concept Used:
Angle of depression = angle of elevation
tanθ=perpendicularheight
Solution:
Distance of boat 1 (angle 30∘):
d1=tan30∘150
tan30∘=31
d1=1503
Distance of boat 2 (angle 60∘):
d2=tan60∘150
tan60∘=3
d2=3150=503
Total distance between the boats (opposite sides):
D = 1503+503=2003 m
