Question

Chetan travels from City A to City B. If Chetan drives his car at 23\frac{2}{3} of his normal speed, then he reaches City B 46 minutes late. Find the time (in minutes) that Chetan would have taken to travel from City A to City B if he drove at his normal speed.

A.

92

B.

82

C.

85

D.

99

Correct option is A

Given:

Chetan reaches 46 minutes late when driving at 23\frac{2}{3} of his normal speed.

Concept Used:

Time is inversely proportional to speed.

Solution:

Let the normal time taken be x minutes.

If speed is reduced to 23\frac{2}{3}, time increases by 32\frac{3}{2} times.

Extra time due to reduced speed = 32xx=12x\frac{3}{2}x - x = \frac{1}{2}x

12x=46\frac{1}{2}x = 46

x = 46×246 \times 2 = 92

Chetan would have taken 92 minutes at his normal speed.
