Question

Chandra is 10 years younger than Chandrika. 5 years later Chandrika will be twice as old as Chandra. Find Chandrika's present age.

A.

20 years

B.

10 years

C.

15 years

D.

25 years

Correct option is C

Given:

Chandra is 10 years younger than Chandrika.

5 years later Chandrika will be twice as old as Chandra.

Solution:

Let Chandrika's present age = xx

Chandra's present age will then be =x10x-10

Five years later:

Chandrika's age will be = x+5x+5

Chandra's age will be = (x10x-10) + 5 = x5x-5

According to question:

=> x+5x+5 = 2(x5x-5)

=> x+5x+5 = 2x102x-10

=> xx = 15 years

Thus the correct answer is (C)
