Question

A wooden box measures 20 cm × 12 cm × 10 cm. Thickness of wood is 1 cm. What is the volume of wood used to make the box?

A.

960 cm³

B.

1120 cm³

C.

519 cm³

D.

2400 cm³

Correct option is A

Given:
Outer dimensions of the box are 20 cm × 12 cm × 10 cm.
Thickness of the wood is 1 cm.
Formula Used: Volume of wood = Volume of outer box - Volume of inner box.
Solution:
 The outer dimensions of the box are 20 cm × 12 cm × 10 cm.
Since the thickness of the wood is 1 cm, the inner dimensions will be:
Length = 20 - 2 = 18 cm
Breadth = 12 - 2 = 10 cm
Height = 10 - 2 = 8 cm
Volume of outer box = 20 × 12 × 10 = 2400 cm³
 Volume of inner box = 18 × 10 × 8 = 1440 cm³
 Volume of wood = Volume of outer box - Volume of inner box = 2400 - 1440 = 960 cm³.
Thus, the volume of wood used to make the box is 960 cm³.
