Question

A train travelling at 72 km/hr. crosses a platform of 160 m in 18 second and another train travelling at 90 km/hr crosses the same platform in 15 second. Find the length of both the trains?

A.

160 m

B.

180 m

C.

140 m

D.

400 m

E.

415 m

Correct option is E

Speed of 1st train =72×5/18
= 20 m/s
∴ Dist travelled by 1st train = 20 × 18
= 360 m
∴ length of train (1st) = 360 – 160 = 200 m
Speed of 2nd train =90×5/18
= 25 m/s
∴ Distance travelled = 25 × 15
= 375 m
∴ length of 2nd train =375-160
= 215 m

required answer = 215 + 200 = 415 m
