Question

A train crosses a pole in 30 seconds. The speed of the train is 120 kmph. Find the length of the train.

A.

0.90 km

B.

0.75 km

C.

1.00 km

D.

0.80 km

Correct option is C

Speed = 120 kmph
To convert kmph to m/s, multiply by 5/18.
Speed = 120 x (5/18) m/s = 600/18 m/s = 100/3 m/s
When a train crosses a pole, the distance it covers is equal to the length of the train.
Distance = Speed x Time
Length of the train = (100/3 m/s) x 30 seconds
Length of the train = 100 x 10 = 1000 meters
Length of the train = 1000 meters = 1000/1000 km = 1 km
Therefore, the length of the train is 1 km.
The correct answer is (c) 1.00 km.
