Question

A train crosses a man on a platform in 10 s and crosses the platform of 260 m in length in 20 s. What is the length of the train?

A.

280 m

B.

240 m

C.

220 m

D.

260 m

Correct option is D

Given:

Time to cross a man = 10 seconds

Time to cross a platform (260 m) = 20 seconds

We are to find the length of the train

Formula Used:

Speed = distancetime \frac{distance}{time}

Solution:

Let the length of the train = L meters
Speed of train =L10 \frac{L}{10} m/s

Then, for crossing platform:

L+26020=L10\frac{L + 260}{20} = \frac{L}{10}

L + 260 = 2L

260 = 2L - L = L

L = 260 m
