    Question

A train 400 m long travelling at a speed of 64 km/h crosses another train 720 m long moving in the opposite direction at a speed of 80 km/h . How much time does the second train take to cross a man sitting in the first train?

    A.

    18 sec

    B.

    16 sec

    C.

    12 sec

    D.

    15 sec

    Correct option is A

    Given:

Length of two trains = 400m and 720m

Speed of train = 64km/hr and 80km/hr respectively

    Formula Used:

    Time =DistanceSpeed= \frac{Distance}{Speed}

    Solution:

    Relative speed of two trains = 64 + 80 = 144km/hr

    Speed in metre per second = 144×518144 \times \frac{5}{18} = 40m/sec

If man is sitting in first train distance = length of second train = 720m

    Time taken =72040 \frac{720}{40} = 18seconds
