    Question

    A number is split into two parts such that one part is 14 more than the other, and the ratio of the two parts is 7 : 5. Find the number.

    A.

    54

    B.

    49

    C.

    84

    D.

    35

    Correct option is C

    Given:

    7 : 5

    Solution:

    Let the part of numbers be 7x and 5x

    difference 7x - 2x = 14

    2x = 14

    x = 7

    7x : 5x = 7x + 5x = 12x

    Thus the number

    12x = 7×\times12

    = 84
