Question

The prices of a cream and a shampoo are in the ratio 19 : 11. The price of the cream is ₹160 more than the price of the shampoo. What is the price of a cream?

A.

₹340

B.

₹360

C.

₹400

D.

₹380

Correct option is D

Given:

Ratio of prices of cream to shampoo = 19 : 11

Difference in prices = ₹160

Solution:

Let common multiplier be x:

Cream = 19x, Shampoo = 11x

Given: 19x - 11x = 160

=>\Rightarrow 8x = 160

=>\Rightarrow x = 20

So,

Price of cream = 19x = 19×20 19 \times 20 = ₹380

Thus, the correct option is (d) ₹380

Alternate Method:

Then,

8 units → 160

19 units = 1608×19\frac{160}{8} \times 19 = 380 Rs.
