Question

A man has to cover a distance of 387 km in 18 hours. If he covers two – third of this distance in 69\frac{6}{9} of the time, then what should his speed (in km/hr) be to cover the remaining distance in the time left?

A.

21.5

B.

6.3

C.

23.7

D.

10.7

Correct option is A

Given:

Total distance to be covered = 387 km

Total time available = 18 hours

Formula Used:

Speed = DistanceTime\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Time}}

Solution:

Two-thirds of the distance = 23\frac23 × 387 = 258 km

Time taken for this part = 69\frac69 × 18 = 12 hours

Remaining distance = 387 – 258 = 129 km

Time left = 18 – 12 = 6 hours

Speed required for remaining distance = 1296 \frac{129}{6} = 21.5 km/hr
