Question

A cyclist covers a distance of 2.5 km in 4 minutes 10 seconds. How long will he take to cover a distance of 6 km at the same speed?

A.

12 minutes

B.

11 minutes

C.

10 minutes

D.

9 minutes

Correct option is C

Given:

Distance travelled = 2.5 km

4 minutes 10 seconds=(4×60)+10=250 seconds4 \text{ minutes } 10 \text{ seconds} = (4 \times 60) + 10 = 250 \text{ seconds}

Formula Used:

Speed=DistanceTime\text{Speed} = \frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Time}}

Solution:

Time=DistanceSpeed\text{Time} = \frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Speed}}

Original speed;

Speed=2.5 km250 seconds=0.01 km/second\text{Speed} = \frac{2.5 \, \text{km}}{250 \, \text{seconds}} = 0.01 \, \text{km/second}

Time taken to cover 6 km;

Time=6 km0.01 km/second=600 seconds\text{Time} = \frac{6 \, \text{km}}{0.01 \, \text{km/second}} = 600 \, \text{seconds}

600 seconds = 10 minutes

Thus, the time taken to cover 6 km with same speed is 10 min.
