Question

A bike can finish a certain journey in 6 hours at the speed of 92 km/hr. In order to cover the same distance in 3 hours, the speed of the bike (in km/hr) must be increased by ____.

A.

86

B.

98

C.

92

D.

85

Correct option is C

Given:

Original speed of the bike = 92 km/hr
Time taken to complete the journey at this speed = 6 hours
Time to complete the same journey in the new time = 3 hours

Concept Used:

Distance = Speed × Time
The distance remains constant in both cases.

Formula Used:

Distance = Speed × Time

Solution:

Let the distance to be covered be D.
Calculate the original distance:
D = Speed × Time
D = 92 × 6 = 552 km
 the required speed to cover the same distance in 3 hours:
New Speed = Distance / Time
New Speed = 552 / 3 = 184 km/hr
Increase in Speed = New Speed - Original Speed
Increase in Speed = 184 - 92 = 92 km/hr

The speed of the bike must be increased by 92 km/hr.
