    Question

    A bag contains 50 paise, 25 paise  and 10 paise coins in the ratio 9 : 5 : 6 amounting to ₹317.5. Find the number of coins of 25 paise.

    A.

    300

    B.

    450

    C.

    250

    D.

    600

    Correct option is C

    Given:

    A bag contains 50 paise, 25 paise and 10 paise coins in the ratio 9 ∶ 5 ∶ 6 amounting to ₹317.5.

    Solution:

    Let the number of 50 paise coins be 9x.

    Let the number of 25 paise coins be 5x.

    Let the number of 10 paise coins be 6x.

    The total amount in paise = 317.5 × 100 = 31750 paise

    Then,

    50 × 9x + 25 × 5x + 10 × 6x = 31750

    450x + 125x + 60x = 31750

    => 635x = 31750

    => x = 31750635\frac{31750}{ 635}

    => x = 50

    Number of 25 paise coins = 5x

    => 5 × 50 = 250

    Thus, the correct answer is (C).
