A 300 m long train crosses a platform which is five times of its length, in 7 minutes 40 sec. What is the speed of the train?

Given:

Length of first train = 300m

Length of platform = 5 times of train

Time taken = 7 min 40sec

Formula Used:

Speed = $$\frac{Distance}{Time}$$​​

Solution:

Length of platform = 5 $$\times$$ 300 = 1500m

Distance to cross = Length of first train + Length of platform   = 300  + 1500 = 1800m

Time in seconds = 7$$\times$$​ 60 + 40 = 420 + 40 = 460 sec

Speed = $$\frac{1800}{460} = \frac{90}{23}= 3\frac{21}{23}m/sec$$​​
