Given:

8 men can complete a piece of work in 12 days .

4 women can do it in 16 days.

Formula used:

Work = Number of men × Number of days

For women, similarly, we use the formula: Work = Number of women × Number of days

Solution:

Work done by 8 men in 12 days = 8 × 12 = 96 man-days = 96 m

Work done by 4 women in 16 days = 4 × 16 = 64 woman-days = 64 w

Since both do equal work:
96 m = 64 w
3m = 2w

Let time taken by 8 women and 4 men = x

8wx + 4mx = 96 m

4 × (3m) x + 4mx = 96m

12mx + 4mx = 96m

x =9616\frac{ 96}{16} ​= 6
