Question

35 people could complete a work in 24 days. But after they worked together for 6 days, their employer wanted that the work should be completed in a total of 16 days. How many more workers need to be employed to meet the deadline?

A.

24

B.

28

C.

20

D.

32

Correct option is B

Given:

35 people can complete the work in 24 days.

They worked for 6 days.

The remaining work should be completed in the next 10 days (since the total duration is reduced to 16 days).

Formula used:

Total Work = People × Days

Solution:

Total work = 35×24=840 worker-days.

Work done in the first 6 days:

Work completed = 35×6=210  worker-days.

Remaining work:

Remaining work = 840−210 = 630 worker-days.

Let the extra number of people to be employed = a

As per the question;

35 × 24 = 35 × 6 + 10(a + 35)

840 - 210 = 10a + 350

630 - 350 = 10a

28010\frac{280}{10} = a

a = 28

The number of extra people to be employed is 28
