The West Bengal Co-operative Service Commission (WEBCSC) has issued an important notice regarding WEBCSC OBC Reservation Update for candidates applying under the reserved category. The update follows the Government of West Bengal notification issued by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, which revised the applicable OBC reservation after the Calcutta High Court’s directions. Candidates claiming OBC Category A benefits must carefully verify their eligibility and category status before participating in the recruitment process.
What is the WEBCSC OBC Reservation Update 2026?
The West Bengal Co-operative Service Commission (WEBCSC) has released an important update regarding OBC reservation for its ongoing recruitment. According to the latest government notification, the OBC reservation policy has been revised following the High Court’s directions. Candidates applying for various posts should check the updated reservation rules and ensure they meet the revised eligibility criteria before proceeding with the recruitment process.
Calcutta High Court Ruling and New 7% Reservation Rule
The Calcutta High Court issued a judgment regarding the OBC reservation policy in West Bengal. Following this decision, the earlier reservation of 10% for OBC (Category A) and 7% for OBC (Category B) has been revised. Under the new rule, a 7% reservation will be available for 66 recognized OBC communities that were included in the OBC list before 2010. This revised reservation policy will be applicable to the concerned state government recruitments.
List of Eligible OBC Communities Under the New Reservation Rule
As per the revised notification, only the 66 recognized OBC communities are eligible to claim reservation benefits under the new policy. The complete list is available in the official notification. Some of the major communities included are:
- Traditional Communities: Kapali, Kurmi, Sutradhar, Karmakar, Kumbhakar, Swarnakar, Teli (Kolu), and Napit.
