How to Become a C.A.?

There are two most popular ways to pursue a degree in CA, the Direct Entry Route or the CA Foundation Route. For students interested in becoming a Chartered Accountant after graduation, Direct Entry Root is the best method for them.  Fulfilling the below-mentioned requirements is important to be eligible for the course of Chartered Accountant:

CA After Graduation Eligibility Criteria

Students who are willing to pursue a CA degree after their graduation, need to know the following things:

Percentage Required- A minimum of 55% is required for the graduates and postgraduates in Commerce. A minimum of 60% is compulsory for graduates or postgraduates from Arts, Humanities, or Science.

Duration- 3 years is the minimum duration to get a CA degree after graduation as students can take the IPCC exam directly after 9 months from registering themselves. After completing the 3-year degree, aspirants also have to complete an Articleship of 2 years to become a Chartered Accountant.

CA Foundation- Applicants who wish to enroll in the Chartered Accountancy Program after the 12th, must have the eligibility to take the CA Foundation exam. The students must register on or before 4 months before the date of the exam held twice in May/November or June/December.

CA Direct Entry Route- For applicants who have qualified Company Secretary (CS) Intermediate level exam from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India or CWA Intermediate examination from the Cost Accounts of India, the CA Direct Entry route is available for them.

The duration to complete a Chartered Accountancy degree differs from student to student. Those who are applying after completing graduation, do not need to take the CA Foundation exam. After graduation, the CA courses usually take 3 years it is assumed that candidates can complete their training and qualify for the exam in the First Attempt.

CA After Graduation Direct Entry Scheme

A candidate can also sign up for a course to pursue a CA after graduation and can appear for the CPT, while the CA Foundation examination. Students with a specific percentage of passing graduation can apply directly for the articles and IPCC Exams. Moreover, the CA Direct Entry Scheme exempts students from the CA Foundation examination and they can directly appear for the Intermediate level exam for the CA. Students who are enrolling in the Chartered Accountant Course after graduation or who have completed the Intermediate level of the ICSI or ICWA are exempt from taking the CA Foundation Exam. But, the candidates who prefer the Direct Entry Scheme for CA after graduation need to follow some steps that are mentioned below:

  • Take an Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills(ICITSS) training offered by the ICAI.
  • To appear for the CA Intermediate exam, applicants must register themselves with the ICAI Board of Studies.
  • Enroll in an Articleship training program of three years to obtain exposure and practical experience.
  • Successfully complete the first 9 months of the Articleship Training period.
  • Complete the Articleship training and follow an Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills  (AICITSES)
  • If there is any remaining group from the Intermediate exams for CA, clear them during the Articleship period.
  • Once, the candidate has finished the training and the CA Intermediate exams, they then can register for the CA Final exam.


How one can become a CA after graduation?

The students planning of doing Ca after graduation need to give CA Foundation exam. they directly have to complete the ITT program along with the 9 months of article ship. They can then sit for the group 1 and 2 examinations of the IPPC exam.
