Bihar Police 48,447 Vacancy Released for SI, Constable and Other Posts

The Bihar Government has approved to reserve half of the sanctioned Police Sub Inspector (SI) and equivalent posts for promotion purposes in Bihar Police. The move aims to strengthen the police force according to the increasing population and administrative requirements.

The official notification has been circulated to senior police officials, district administrations, treasury officers, and other concerned departments across Bihar for information and compliance.

Bihar Police 48,447 Vacancies Announced

As per the official order issued by the Home Department (Police Branch) on 14 May 2026, a total of 20,937 Police Sub Inspector and equivalent posts were earlier sanctioned for direct recruitment. Out of these 10,469 posts will now be filled through promotion, while 10,468 posts will remain for direct recruitment.

A total of 48,447 additional posts have been created based on increasing population requirements. These includes 20,937 SI and equivalent posts, 22,040 Constable posts, and 5,500 Driver Constable posts.

Out of 20,937 Sub Inspector and equivalent posts, 50% posts will now be filled through promotion as per the revised departmental order.
