State Bank of India to Hire 4000 Employees Soon, Big Update by Chairman C. S. Setty

The State Bank of India (SBI), India’s largest Public Sector Bank, is planning to hire 4000 new employees in loan collection and recovery team. The announcement has been made by SBI Chairman during the Q4 FY26 results. This is going to be a field based job and recruitments will be done through SBI’s subsidiary/service company.

SBI to Hire 4000 Employees in Loan Collection Department

According to the Chairman, the bank plans to recruit 3,000 to 4,000 employees specifically for a dedicated loan collection and early recovery team. Also, it has been made clear that these new hiring will not be drawn from SBI’s existing workforce. Instead, they will be hired through the bank’s subsidiary and will work in the field while being centrally managed by SBI. The entire recruitment process is expected to be completed over the next 12 months.

Why is SBI creating a Loan Collection Team?

SBI already has good loan recovery records such as Net NPA improved to 0.39% (March 2026) and Gross NPA declined to 1.49%. Also, SBI employees’ strength has increased from 2.36 lakh (FY25) to 2.45 lakh (FY26).

The main reason for this hiring is the new RBI rule called Expected Credit Loss (ECL) norms. Under these rules, banks must set aside money even for accounts that show early signs of stress (SMA-1 stage). To stop such accounts from turning into NPAs, SBI wants a strong team that can act early.

What the Loan Collection and Recovery Team will do?

The new staff will:

  • Track stressed loan accounts
  • Follow up with borrowers
  • Start recovery at an early stage
  • Help prevent loans from becoming NPAs
  • Guide customers with repayment options

This is similar to SBI’s earlier Stressed Assets Resolution work, but on a much bigger scale and with a preventive focus.

What Should Aspirants Do?

If you are preparing for banking jobs in 2026-27, keep a close watch on official notifications from SBI and its subsidiaries. This could be a golden opportunity for candidates looking for stable government-backed jobs with field exposure. More details regarding eligibility criteria, selection process, and application dates are expected to be released soon with notification.
