Each question carries 1 mark
Negative marking: 1/4 mark
Time: 8 Minutes

Q1. Dolomite is a lime stone that contains carbonate of magnesia up to:
(a) 35%
(b) 15%
(c) 25%
(d) 45%

Q2. To estimate 28 day crushing strength of concrete cubes from 7-day cube strength, we multiply the 7-day cube strength by:
(a) 3
(b) 2.5
(c) 1.5
(d) 1.2

Q3. For estimation of painted area of corrugated asbestos cement sheets, percentage increase in area above the painted area is ………….
(a) 10%
(b) 14%
(c) 20%
(d) 25%

Q4. If the downfall end of the 30m tape is held 80 cm too low, then using the correction for slope what is the value of the horizontal length?
(a) 19.983 m
(b) 49.983 m
(c) 39.983 m
(d) 29.983 m

Q5. The permissible limit of arsenic in drinking water as per the guidelines of WHO is
(a) 0.01 ppm
(b) 0.01ppb
(c) 0.05 ppm
(d) 0.05 ppb

Q6. The pressure in meters of oil (specific gravity 0.85) equivalent to 42.5m of water is______:
(a) 12.5 m
(b) 50 m
(c) 52.5m
(d) 85m

Solutions

S1. Ans.(d)
Sol. Dolomite is a limestone that contains carbonate of magnesia up to 45%. The specific gravity of dolomite is 2.8 to 2.9 and the hardness of Mohs scale is 3.5.

S2. Ans.(c)
Sol.

Minimum specified strength in N/mm²
  1 days 3 days 7 days 28 days
OPC 16.0 22.0 33.0

Ratio =(28 days compressive strength)/(7 days compressive strength)
=33/22
= 1.5

S3. Ans.(c)
Sol. For estimation of painting are on corrugate sheets then plain are of sheets should be increased by following percentage
Corrugate steel sheets → 10%
Semi-corrugated asbestos cement sheets → 10%
Corrugated asbestos cement sheets → 20%

S4. Ans.(d)
Sol. d = 0.80 m
Length of tape (l) = 30m
Correction for slope (c) = -(d^2/2l)
=(-(0.80)^2)/(2×30)
▭(C= -0.0106m)
Horizontal length (L) = 30 – 0.0106 = 29.983 m.

S5. Ans.(a)
Sol. The permissible limit of arsenic in drinking water as per the guidelines of WHO is 0.01 ppm or 0.01 mg/l. and cause for rejection is 0.05 mg/l.

S6. Ans. (b)
Sol. Pressure of oil = Pressure of water
(ρgh ) oil = (ρgh) water
(0.85 × 1000 × 9.81× h) = (1000 × 9.81 × 42.5)

h = 50 m
