The Vindhya Scarp lands and the Narmada Valley contribute to the distinctiveness of the South Central Highland region. The rugged terrain of the Vindhya Range, characterized by scarplands, contrasts with the relatively flat plains of the Narmada Valley, creating a varied landscape that is characteristic of the region. These geographical features not only shape the physical environment but also influence aspects such as climate, vegetation, and human settlement patterns within the South-Central Highland.
The Vindhya Scarp lands is a prominent mountain range in central India, extending across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. The Vindhya Range forms a significant part of the South Central Highland. The eastern flank of the Vindhya Range is marked by steep escarpments or scarplands, which are elevated areas with steep slopes. These scarplands are characteristic of the South Central Highland region and contribute to its rugged topography.
The Narmada River, one of the major rivers of central India, flows through the South Central Highland region. The Narmada Valley, with its deep gorge and associated plains, is a prominent geographical feature of the region. The Narmada Valley adds to the diversity of landscapes within the South Central Highland, encompassing both elevated plateaus and low-lying plains.

Bundelkhand upland: It is bounded by the Yamuna River to the north, Madhya Bharat Pathar to the west, Vindhyan Scarplands to the east and southeast, and Malwa Plateau to the south.
It spreads over the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border and surrounding areas in the two states.
It has an average elevation of 300-600 m above the mean sea level with the plateau sloping down from the Vindhyan Scarp toward the Yamuna River.
It is an old dissected upland made up of ‘Bundelkhand Gneiss’ comprising Granite and Gneiss.
The prominent rivers flowing in the area include the Betwa, Dhasan, and Ken.
Senile topography is a characteristic of this region of the Indian Peninsular Plateau.
The erosional work of the rivers flowing in this region has made this area undulating (wave-like surface), and hence unfit for cultivation.
Also, the area is marked by a chain of hillocks (small hills) made of Granite and Sandstone.
    Rohilkhand Plains:
Rohilkhand, low-lying alluvial region is located in northwestern UP, on the upper Ganges alluvial plain.
Between the Ganga River (West) and the Avadh Plain (East).
Named after the Rohilla tribe, and was known as Madhyadesh in the Mahabharata.
Rohillas were the Pathan highlanders of the Yusufzai tribe
