Question

What digit should come in the place of ‘x‘ so that the given 6-digit number : 28x232 is exactly divisible by 88'?

A.

9

B.

7

C.

5

D.

3

Correct option is B

Given:

Number 28x232

Formula Used:

Divisibility rule of 11 - (the sum of odd digits - sum of even digits) = 0 or multiple of 11.

Divisibility rule of 8 - The last three digits of number should be divisible by 8

Solution:

The number 88 = 8 ×\times 11 so the number 28x232 should be divisible by both 8 and 11

For divisibility by 8 the last three digit should be available by 8

So 232 is divisible by 8

For divisibility by 11 then sum of odd digits - the sum of even should be 0 or multiple of 11

= 28x232 = (8+2+2)- (2+x+3) = 12 - (5+x) = 7-x

So the sum to be zero x = 7
