Two trains are running in the same direction With speeds of 38 km/h and 74 km/h. Time taken by faster train to cross aman standing in the slower train
Question

Two trains are running in the same direction With speeds of 38 km/h and 74 km/h. Time taken by faster train to cross a
man standing in the slower train is 50 seconds. The length of the faster train is:

A.

550 m

B.

500 m

C.

350 m

D.

250 m

Correct option is B

Given:

Speed of slower train = 38 km/h

Speed of faster train = 74 km/h

Time taken by the faster train to cross a man standing in the slower train = 50 seconds

Formula Used:

Relative speed in the same direction = difference in speeds of the two trains.

Distance = Speed × Time

Convert speeds from km/h to m/s by multiplying by 518\frac{5}{18}

Solution:

Relative speed = 74km/h − 38km/h = 36km/h

Convert relative speed to m/s:  36km/h ×518=10 m/s \frac{5}{18} = 10 \, \text{m/s}

Distance (length of faster train) = 10 × 50 = 500 meters
