Question

Two trains, 163 m and 117 m long, are moving in the same direction at speeds of 93 km/hr and 33 km/hr, respectively. How much time will the faster train take to completely cross the slower one?

A.

8 seconds

B.

18 seconds

C.

15 seconds

D.

16.8 second

Correct option is D

Given
Length of faster train = 163 m
Length of slower train = 117 m
Speed of faster train = 93 km/h
Speed of slower train = 33 km/h
Formula Used
Distance = Speed × Time
Relative Speed (same direction) = Speed 1 - Speed 2
Solution
Relative speed = 93 - 33 = 60 km/h
Convert into m/s = 60×518=50360 × \frac{5}{18} = \frac{50}{3} m/s
Total distance to cross = 163 + 117 = 280 m
Time taken = Total Distance ÷ Relative Speed
Time = 280÷503280 ÷ \frac{50}{3}
Time = 280×350\frac{280 × 3}{50}
Time = 16.8 seconds
Final Answer
So the correct answer is (d)
