Question

Two numbers are in the ratio 7 : 8. If the HCF is 4, find the greater number.

A.

8

B.

56

C.

32

D.

28

Correct option is C

Given:

The two numbers are in the ratio 7 : 8.

The HCF (Highest Common Factor) of the two numbers is 4.

Solution:

Let the numbers be 7x and 8x

the HCF of these two numbers is 4

Since 7 and 8 are coprime, their HCF is 1, so

= 7x = 7×\times4 = 28

and 8x = 8×\times4 = 32

The greater number is 32
