Question

There are twelve dozen of apples in a basket. Two dozen are added later. Ten apples got spoilt and are removed. The remaining are transferred equally into two baskets. How many are there in each?

A.

89

B.

168

C.

158

D.

79

Correct option is D

Given:

- Initial apples = 12 dozen = 12 × 12 = 144 apples

- Apples added = 2 dozen = 2 × 12 = 24 apples

- Apples spoiled and removed = 10 apples

- Total baskets after transfer = 2

Solution:

Total apples after addition

Total apples = 144 + 24 = 168 apples

Remove spoiled apples

Remaining apples = 168 - 10 = 158 apples

Distribute apples equally into two baskets

Apples per basket = 158 ÷ 2 = 79 apples

There are 79 apples in each basket.
