    Question

There are 20 pigeons , 10 cows , 15 dogs and some buffalos. If the total number of feet is 125 more than the heads, then what is the number of buffalos?

    A.

    8

    B.

    5

    C.

    10

    D.

    15

    Correct option is C

    Given:
There are 20 pigeons, 10 cows, 15 dogs and some buffalos
    Solution:
Let the number of buffalos be x.
    So, the total number of heads is 20 (pigeons) + 10 (cows) + 15 (dogs) + x (buffalos) = 45 + x
and the total number of legs is
    = (20 x 2) + (10 x 4) + (15 x 4) + (x x 4)
    = 40 + 40 + 60 + 4x
    = 140 + 4x
    As per question,
The total number of feet is 125 more than the heads
    140 + 4x = (45 + x) + 125
    = 140 + 4x = 170 + x
    = 3x = 30
    = x = 10
Thus, the correct answer is (c).
