Question

A has a certain amount of money and B also has some money. If A gives ₹130 to B, then B will have 1.5 times the amount left with A. Instead, if B gives ₹70 to A, then A will have 2 times the amount left with B. What is the total amount of money that A and B together have between them?

A.

₹720

B.

₹750

C.

₹700

D.

₹780

Correct option is B

Given:

A gives ₹130 to B, making B’s amount 1.5 times A's remaining amount.

B gives ₹70 to A, making A’s amount 2 times B's remaining amount.

Formula Used:

From the first condition = B + 130 = 1.5(A−130)

From the second condition = A + 70 = 2(B−70)

Solution:

First equation

B + 130 = 1.5(A−130)

B + 130 = 1.5A − 195

Second equation

A + 70 = 2(B−70)

A + 70 = 2B − 140

A = 2B − 210

Substituting B=1.5A−325 from (1) into (2)

A = 2(1.5A − 325) − 210

A = 3A − 650 − 210

A = 3A − 860

2A = 860 =>A = 430

Finding B = Substituting A = 430 into (1)

B = 1.5(430) − 325

B = 645− 325 = 320

Total = A + B = 430 + 320 = ₹750
