Question

If the difference between two numbers is 4 and their product is 32, then the absolute difference between their cubes is:

A.

444

B.

484

C.

844

D.

448

Correct option is D

Given:

Difference between two numbers: a − b = 4

Product of two numbers: ab = 32

Formula Used:

a3− b3= (a−b)(a2+ab+b2)

a2+b2=(a−b)2+2ab

Solution:

a2+ b2= (a − b)2+ 2ab

Substituting a − b = 4 and ab = 32

a2+ b2= 42+ 2(32)

a2+ b2= 16 + 64 = 80

a2+ ab + b2= 80 + 32 = 112

a3− b3 = 4×112 = 448
