Question
The surface area of a sphere of radius 4 cm is eight times the area of the curved surface area of a cone whose radius 2 cm. Find the volume of the cone.
A.
32πcm3
B.
34πcm3
C.
38πcm3
D.
36πcm3
Correct option is C
Given:
Radius of sphere = 4 cm
Radius of base of cone = 2 cm
Surface area of sphere is 8 times the curved surface area of cone
Formula Used:
Curved surface area of cone = πrl
Slant height , l=r2+h2
Surface area of sphere = 4πr2
Volume of cone = 31×π×r2×h
Solution:
Surface area of sphere = 4π42=64πcm2
Surface area of sphere is 8 times the curved surface area of cone
Curved surface area of cone = 81×64πcm2=8πcm2
πrl=8πcm2 ( radius of base of cone = 2cm)
l=4cm2
l=r2+h2=4
Squaring both sides
22+h2=16
h2=16−4=12
h=23cm
Volume of cone==31×π×22×23cm
=38πcm3
Thus, Volume of cone = 38πcm3
