The lateral area is thrice as big as the base area of a solid cone. If the diameter of the solid cone is 1 meter, then what is the total surface area
Question

The lateral area is thrice as big as the base area of a solid cone. If the diameter of the solid cone is 1 meter, then what is the total surface area of solid cone?

A.

8π Sq. m.

B.

2π Sq. m.

C.

π Sq. m

D.

4π Sq. m.

Correct option is C

Given:
The lateral area is thrice as big as the base area of the solid cone. Diameter of the cone is 1 meter.
Concept Used:
If r be the radius of the base then the area of the base of the cone is πr2r^2
Total surface area = Lateral area + Area of the base
Radius = Diameter2\frac{\text{Diameter}}{2}
Solution:
Diameter of the cone is 1 meter
=> Radius of the cone (r) = 12\frac{1}{2} meter
Area of the base of the cone = π(12)2π(\frac12)^2 = π4\frac \pi 4 Sq. m.
The lateral area is thrice as big as the base area
=> Lateral area of the cone is 3π4\frac{3π}4 Sq. m.
Total surface area of the cone = 3π4+π4\frac{3π}4 + \frac{π}4
=> π Sq. m.
