Question

The sum of five numbers is 655. The average of the first two numbers is 78 and the thirdnumber is 102. Find the average of the remaining two numbers?

A.

198.5

B.

181

C.

199.5

D.

180

Correct option is A

Given:

The sum of five numbers is 655.

The average of the first two numbers is 78.

The third number is 102.

Formula Used:

Sum of first two numbers = Average × 2

Sum of remaining two numbers = Total sum − (Sum of first three numbers)

Average of remaining two numbers = Sum of remaining two numbers2\frac{\text{Sum of remaining two numbers}}{2}

Solution:

Sum of first two numbers = 78 × 2 = 156

Total sum of the five numbers = 655

The sum of the first three numbers = 156 + 102 = 258

Sum of remaining two numbers = 655 - 258 = 397

Average of the remaining two numbers = 3972\frac{397}{2} = 198.5
