Question

The price of a jewel, passing three hands, rises on the whole by 65%. If the first and second sellers earned 20% and 25% profit respectively, find percentage profit earned by the third seller.

A.

10%

B.

15 %

C.

16%

D.

12%

Correct option is A

Let the original price of the jewel = Rs. y
Also, let the profit earned by the third seller = P%
According to the question,
(100 + P)% of 125% of 120% of y = 165% of y
[(100 + P)/100]% × (125/100) × (120/100) × y = 165% × y
100 + P = [(165 × 100 × 100) / (125 × 120)]
100 + P = 110
P = 10%
