Question

The present ages of Shanthi and Keerthi are in the ratio of 7 : 3. After 5 years, Shanti's age will be 40. How old will Keerthi be after 5 years?

A.

10 years

B.

30 years

C.

20 years

D.

15 years

Correct option is C

Given:
The present ages of Shanthi and Keerthi are in the ratio 7 : 3.
After 5 years, Shanthi’s age will be 40.
Solution:
Let Shanthi’s age be 7x and Keerthi’s age be 3x.
According to the question, after 5 years, Shanthi’s age will be 40.
7x + 5 = 40
7x = 40 – 5
7x = 35
x = 5
So,
Present age of Keerthi = 3x = 3 × 5 = 15 year
Keerthi’s age after 5 years = 15 + 5 = 20 year
Thus,Keerthi will be 20 years old after 5 years.
